Center for Study of Public Opinion, Almaty, Kazakhstan (CIOM)

The Center for Study of Public Opinion (CIOM) is one of the leading research companies of Kazakhstan which are engaged in sociological and marketing researches. Researches are held in Kazakhstan and the CIS countries, since 1988.

Different qualified professionals work in CIOM. Many of them are experts in the field of sociology and public opinion of Kazakhstan, experts of the international organizations, members of the international associations.

CIOM, having modern material resources of computer and audiovisual techniques, a solid databank of the sociological and marketing information, conducts mass and specialized survey, develops programs and techniques of gathering information.

CIOM works under standards and rules of conducting researches:
  • The international code of marketing researches (ESOMAR) (It is accepted by the International chamber of commerce and the European society on public opinion and marketing studying (ESOMAR) in 1976).
  • The code of professional researchers of public opinion and the market of Kazakhstan (KAPIOR) (for the first time in Kazakhstan, it is accepted by Association KAPIOR on March, 26th, 2008).

CIOM conducts researches of a full cycle, from designing methodology and instruments to the analytical report by results of research:

  • Working out of research methodology and instruments, including survey documents, instructions for interviewers and supervisors
  • Examination and consultation on available research instrument
  • Preparation and conducting of the fieldwork, including organizational work of the supervisor, selection and training of the interviewers, data gathering, control work of  the interviewers
  • Data entry and processing
  • Analysis of the quantitative data
  • Organization and conducting different types of qualitative researches
  • Granting of place and equipment for conducting Focus Groups
  • Decoding and processing of qualitative research data
  • Analysis of the data of qualitative research - the semantic analysis of a text data file (received by methods of expert interviews, deep interviews, focus groups)
  • Preparation and conducting presentation by results of research
  • Consultation by results of research Sociological Research

Director of the
Center for Study of Public Opinion is Dr Gulzhan Alimbekova.

The center of Studying of Public opinion was the organizer of surveys in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan under the project of the European Union, "Health in Times of Transition: Trends in Population Health and Health Policies in CIS countries”.

Center for Study of Public Opinion is initiator of survey among students in Kazakhstan within the international program "EUROSTUDENT". More information about the program
