Armenian Sociological Association, Yerevan, Armenia (ASA)

Established in 1992, ASA - Armenian Sociological Association is the pioneer and one of the leaders among research organizations in Armenia.

ASA is a national member of ISA - International Sociological Association, ESOMAR – European Research Organizations, ESA - European Sociological Association

ASA has the best practice in Armenia, based on 23 years working experience
in the following areas:

· Conducting the sociological researches, Public opinion polls, Exit Polls;
· Market researches, Media surveys;
· Focus group Discussions, Expert surveys, In-dept interviews
· Desk survey, Hall test, On-line surveys.

Today ASA has no equal in Armenia on:

1. the quantity and scale of conducted researches;
2. the quantity of publications in different languages and also in international journals;
3. the quantity of participation in international projects, conferences and congresses;
4. the quantity and geography of partner organizations, many of which are famous, reputable firms and international organizations;
5. the realization of regional programs in South Caucasus;
6. availability of technical basis and program equipment ;
7. availability of net of 90 trained interviewers, experienced instructors.

ASA has the great experience in Armenia on preparing and conducting sociological researches and public opinion poll, the majority of results of which were published both in Armenia and abroad.

ASA has the most number of publications in Armenia. These are as a rule not only serious scientific articles and monographs, but also newspaper articles, results of public opinion poll, Radio and TV programs.

ASA is the greatest authority in Armenia on conducting quantitative and qualitative surveys, starting from 1992 up to the present time.

Among the Clients of ASA were: Government of the RA, political parties and different international organization: US Department of State, USAID, International Republican Institute (IRI), IREX, GALLUP/Baltic Survey, World Bank, UNDP, UNISEF, UNHCR, IOM, TACIS, INTERMEDIA (USA), Aguirre International (USA), DRC (Denmark), MASMI, CESSI (Russia), International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES), GTZ (Germany), Free University of Berlin, and many others.

ASA has a big number of partners from abroad among reputable universities of USA, Germany, Finland, South Korea, Russia, and Poland.

ASA participates in numerous international sociological projects (including World Value Survey, several projects of TACIS, INTAS, COPERNICUS, FP6), takes part in numerous international conferences and world congresses. ASA are figured in many international reference books and Internet sites of sociological organizations all over the world.

Today ASA has no equal in Armenia on:
 
8. the quantity and scale of conducted researches;
9. the quantity of publications in different languages and also in international journals;
10. the quantity of participation in international projects, conferences and congresses;
11. the quantity and geography of partner organizations, many of which are famous, reputable firms and international organizations, like UN;
12. the realization of regional programs (Georgia, South Caucasus);
13. availability of technical basis and program equipment (in two-stored office there are the local network of 11 modern computers, 2 copy-machines, scanner, fax machine, e-mail, Internet, mini phone station, two cars, the last version of SPSS Software, TV- and video equipment and special room for FGDs etc);
14. availability of net of 70 trained interviewers, experienced instructors, which let us conduct surveys in 125 points all over the Republic during two weeks.

Annually ASA is conducting about 25-30 surveys. Among the permanent staff there are doctor of sociology and 4 candidates of science, 7 postgraduate students and competitors, fluent in foreign languages. Many of staff members received individual grants from IREX, Fulbright Fellowship Foundation, Open Society Institute (USA), CEU (Budapest).


Team leader and Principal Investigator
: the primarily responsible person for carrying out research in Armenia is Dr Prof. G. Poghosyan, President of the Armenian Sociological Association.
Key qualifications:
  • Longstanding experience (21 years) in sociological research, focusing on modernization, social transformation, social alienation, migration flows, return and reintegration.
  • Director and coordinator of more than 100 sociological projects
Membership of professional bodies: Full member of Armenian National Academy of Sciences; European Sociological Association; ESOMAR; International Academy of Problems of Nature and Society; International Sociological Association.
Publications: Author of 41 books and monographs and 150 scientific articles.
